A taste of the new year in a bottle: Macallan launches festive whisky
As winter approaches and the scent of the New Year fills the air, Macallan, in collaboration with Whisky Bar Museum, launches A Night on Earth in Scotland edition.
As winter draws near and the aroma of the New Year fills the air, there's something special about sipping a fine whisky. In perfect timing, the Macallan distillery has unveiled a collaboration with the Whisky Bar Museum to celebrate the launch of the limited edition A Night on Earth in Scotland.
Dim lighting, soft jazz in the background, and the subtle scent of oak wood—this was the ambiance that greeted me at the launch event for The Macallan A Night on Earth in Scotland, held at the Whisky Bar Museum in the Sarona complex, Tel Aviv. Macallan, synonymous with luxury in the world of whisky, is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, and they are doing it in style. The bottle itself is a work of art, with a multi-layered packaging designed by illustrator Erica Dorn, showcasing the visual story of Hogmanay—the traditional Scottish New Year celebrations. Each detail in the illustration invites the eye to uncover more about this rich heritage.
What makes this launch particularly special is the unique collaboration between Macallan and the Whisky Bar Museum. For the first time, every purchase of the luxury bottle not only offers a premium drink but also includes a professional and captivating tasting journey.
"We want people to experience the whisky with all their senses," a Macallan representative explained to me. "It's not just about the taste, but about the culture, history, and art behind each bottle."
The tasting experience, held at the Whisky Bar Museum, is a journey in itself. It includes sampling four select single malts from Macallan's portfolio, each telling a unique story of flavor and aroma. Alongside the whisky, dishes are served that perfectly harmonize with the rich flavors of the drink. During the tasting, notes of vanilla and baked apples emerge, while the palate enjoys a velvety sweetness reminiscent of butter cookies, accompanied by hints of toasted marshmallows and dried oranges. The lingering finish leaves a taste of sweet butter and baked biscuits.
Priced at a recommended NIS 800 per bottle of The Macallan A Night on Earth in Scotland, it is certainly an investment. But for whisky enthusiasts or those seeking a special gift, this is a chance to experience something extraordinary, combining not just the luxury whisky but also a holistic experience that intertwines tradition, elegance, and the brand’s values.
The bottles will be available in select stores until the end of the year, with the tasting experience open until December 20, 2024. Whether you're a seasoned whisky lover or just curious, this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy premium whisky and great food.
