Spotify's AI curated playlists tailored to your mood

Spotify is embracing the trend of artificial intelligence by allowing premium users to build playlists based on creative ideas. Users can now type their feelings, and Spotify's AI engine selects songs accordingly.

Artificial intelligence is now integrated into Spotify, enabling premium users to turn any creative idea into a playlist. Users simply input text, and Spotify's AI engine finds the most suitable songs. For those unfamiliar with AI, it's a new technology that mimics human thinking, allowing software, apps, or devices to behave as humans do. AI utilizes text or user-inputted data, generating responses in the form of dialogue, images, videos, music, executing commands, and now, creating playlists.

Last year, Spotify experimented with AI-generated playlists in its DJ software. Now, it launches a beta version allowing users to create AI-generated playlists based on text descriptions. Initially available to premium subscribers in the UK and Australia.

Android and iOS users in these regions can access the AI playlist generator by navigating to "Your Library" and tapping the "+" button in the upper left corner of the page. After selecting the "AI Playlist" option from the dropdown menu, users can type instructions like "Music for a Cold and Rainy Day" to receive a playlist of 30 songs matching that mood. Additional instructions such as "Sadder Songs" can be provided until the user is satisfied with the playlist, which can be saved by tapping "Create" in the upper left corner.

This feature comes with an anticipated price hike from Spotify later this year. Currently, premium subscriptions start at $6 per month for students or $11 for individuals. Spotify has not yet specified when the AI integration will roll out to other countries. Meanwhile, Apple is also expected to embed AI technology into its operating system, possibly announcing it at the upcoming developer conference in a couple of months.
