The British offer the Defender 110 at NIS 540,000, closer to the people
Toyota opens the order list for the new, more expensive Land Cruiser, and Land Rover launches a cheaper version of its legendary off-roader, closer in price than ever.
Land Rover's importer, Hamizrach, announced price reductions and an expanded range of Defender 110 and 130 models. The new generation of Defenders was introduced five years ago and has gained a global reputation for excellent motor capabilities and high comfort levels on both road and trail. What limited sales in Israel were the high entry prices and the hesitation of off-road enthusiasts due to the high level of sophistication.
Last year, the British manufacturer addressed the issue by extending the warranty on all its models to a full five years (or 150,000 km) – a very impressive and extensive warranty, more so than any of its competitors. This warranty extension symbolizes the British manufacturer's confidence in the quality of its products; it won't help with extracting a broken-down vehicle from the field, but repairs will be covered under warranty. This is a significant relief for potential buyers, whether they are off-road enthusiasts or urban jeepers.
Yesterday, Hamizrach announced another step to make the Defenders more accessible in the Israeli market, perhaps in anticipation of the new Land Cruiser 250's launch? The outgoing Cruiser is currently being sold at significant discounts (we've heard of discounts of NIS 50,000-60,000), and the new generation will be much more expensive, with prices expected to start around NIS 450,000. Hamizrach announced yesterday a 5-seat Defender 110 at a price of NIS 540,300 , which is attractive compared to the 7-seat models, which start about NIS 100,000 higher.
At this new price, you get the comfort and refinement of the new Defender, including the pneumatic suspension system. The cheaper 110 will include an off-road package and AT tires sized 255/65R19 and will continue to offer an excellent combination of road and off-road capabilities. The base version of the Defender is equipped with a 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine, delivering 200 hp. Without offering sporty performance, this is a very powerful and refined engine, providing a very smooth and quiet ride. The 5-year warranty will allow new customers to enjoy peace of mind and even transfer ownership before the warranty expires, which is very nice. The new Defender is in high demand in the used car market in Israel.
And there’s also the 'luxury'
For those still in the mood to buy the better version, Hamizrach offers the new SE X-Dynamic trim level, which includes 7 seats, rich equipment, and 6-cylinder diesel engines with 250 hp. The Defender 110 will cost NIS 729,000 in this version, and the extended 130 offers 8 seats for NIS 766,000.
At this opportunity, a facelift for the Discovery Sport is also presented, with improvements in design and sophistication of the passenger compartment. The 'Sport' won’t take you to the depths of the desert, but it has 7 seats and 200 horsepower, with an upgraded trim level. The ride comfort and refinement are at a very high level, as is the price, which has climbed to NIS 472,700. The Evoque has also received a significant facelift, priced at NIS 389,100.
The new Defender has bitten into Discovery-5 sales, but there are still customers interested in the Disco, which still offers better road refinement than the Defender. In the Dynamic SE trim level, the Discovery-5 is offered with a 3.0-liter 250 hp diesel engine, pneumatic suspension, and rich equipment, at a price of NIS 711,000. To promote the array of refreshed models, Hamizrach will hold a sales week in all showrooms from June 16-21; the British fair will include special prices, financing terms, and trade-in deals.
