The messaging app adds three new tools to upgrade direct messages (DMs). Features include adding nicknames and using new stickers.

Instagram is set to launch three new tools for direct messages (DMs). The new update, which will soon be available in Israel, adds to a series of innovations introduced by the photo and video sharing app.

Starting tonight, users will be able to assign nicknames to friends in group chats within DMs. These nicknames can be changed at any time to suit the moment. The nicknames apply only to a specific chat, ensuring private jokes from one chat won't carry over to others.

Additionally, Instagram is rolling out live location sharing in DMs. From now on, users can share their live location for up to one hour or share a specific location by pinning and marking it on a map, including in group chats.

Moreover, Instagram is adding 17 new sticker packs to DMs. These new features will be gradually launched worldwide in the coming weeks, including in Israel.

The new additions are part of an intensive update initiative by Meta, Instagram’s parent company. Recently, the app introduced updates to content recommendation options: After years of complaints, the app now allows users to reset and restart content suggestions in their feed.

To reset content recommendations, users need to navigate to account settings (Settings and activity) and then select Suggested content. From there, they can choose the Reset suggested content option. After this reset, recommendations will gradually be personalized again, based on content consumption and interactions on the platform. During the reset process, users will also have the option to review all the accounts they follow and unfollow certain accounts.

Meanwhile, Instagram adjusted its refresh settings so the app won’t refresh automatically upon opening, but only when users start scrolling. It also introduced a new feature allowing public responses to Stories, enabling more open and dynamic interactions between users.

In addition, live broadcast capabilities have been enhanced, providing content creators with new tools to improve the viewing and broadcasting experience. The process for sharing posts to Stories has also become more user-friendly and intuitive, making it easier for users to share interesting content with their followers.
