Rolling Square's Edge Pro – the MacGyver of smartphone stands
The Edge Pro by the Rolling Square startup is a magnetic stand for a smartphone that connects to the laptop screen, when it knows how to provide wireless charging as well as lighting for video calls.
Apple and Samsung are constantly adding features that make the smartphone a more integral part of the laptop. Whether it's phone calls that ring between the two devices, photos that easily pass between the two or mirroring the smartphone screen in full to the laptop. Consumers do not want this separation between their two personal devices.
The Swiss startup Rolling Square, which develops a variety of accessories for the iPhone, recently began selling its product catalog in Israel as an official import through the Bug network. The Edge Pro is an organization system for the work environment, which allows you to physically connect the smartphone to the laptop.
The Edge Pro in the Full Kit version comes in a compact box that hides the amount of parts included in it. This is a product that includes quite a number of parts for its various uses and it is highly recommended to use the instructional video on Rolling Square's YouTube channel.
Smartphone stand, wireless charging and lighting
The Edge Pro offers three main uses: A metal bracket (called Core) for the smartphone that connects to the back of the laptop, wireless charging for the smartphone, and lighting for video calls.
The Core connects to the back of the laptop using a high-quality sticker (there is a solution to remove it in the packaging, when you want to stop using the product). The sticker is pasted on the right or left side of the screen. Basically, the side that is more comfortable for you to look at the smartphone screen while working on the laptop. The Core is magnetized to the sticker so it can be attached or removed easily.
The core made of metal folds in half when it is closed, when you open it you can magnetize the smartphone to it. Rolling Square does use Apple's Magsafe solution for iPhones, which can be magnetized straight out of the box, but if you have an Android device, you can use the ring sticker for this use (the sticker is attached to the kit). This is also what I did with the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone that I use and with which the review was conducted.
The magnetization of the S24 Ultra was easy and the sticker was stable, but due to the size and weight of the Samsung smartphone, in some cases my MacBook's screen tilted back. It happened that I didn't position the macbook screen at a right enough angle. I don't think this problem exists with lighter smartphones.
The solution of a smartphone screen attached to a computer screen and always in the corner of the eye is convenient and makes work more productive, when you don't have to reach for your smartphone every time you want to make a call or read an alert.
Rolling Square Edge Pro - also a desktop stand
When you don't want to attach the Core to the laptop screen, you can put it on the table for a smartphone stand, which can stand on it vertically or horizontally.
The Core also knows how to provide wireless charging, but this is a slightly crooked solution. In order to receive the wireless charging, you need to magnetize the appropriate accessory to the Core, which connects with a cable to the USB-C connector of the laptop (two USB-C cables come in the kit with a length of 30 cm and 1.5 meters). It is wireless charging with a power of 15 watts (perhaps enough for iPhone and Galaxy, less for other smartphones). Those who are constantly on the move with their laptop will find it a slightly bulky accessory.
Video calls with lighting
The third accessory is the round lighting, it is magnetized to the Core. The lighting accessory provides lighting intensity (up to 1000 lumens) with warm and cold lighting for customization. You don't have to leave the accessory connected to the USB-C cable in order for it to work, but you have to charge it.
Price: NIS 380 for a full kit on the Bug network
Bottom line, my feeling with the Edge Pro is that Rolling Square tried to make the MacGyver of smartphone stands. It offers a multitude of capabilities in one product, but requires understanding and patience in its initial assembly. In order to enjoy some of its features, you have to remember to take the various parts that leave the house and this is cumbersome. On the other hand, it is a product that is produced in excellent quality, it provides a convenient solution for using the smartphone with the laptop and it is impossible not to praise Rolling Square that they did not develop a product only for iPhone users and made adjustments that would also fit Android-based smartphones.
