A new report reveals Samsung is developing a rollable smartphone with a massive display to compete with Huawei in the foldable phone market. Expected launch: 2025.

Samsung, once a leader in foldable smartphone innovation, faces significant competition following Huawei's impressive release of the Mate XT, a foldable smartphone that folds into three. According to a report by South Korean news outlet The Elec, Samsung is now actively developing a rollable phone with a massive 12.4-inch display, expected to hit the market in 2025, aiming to reclaim its place at the forefront of innovation.

The large screen size is no surprise, given that Samsung unveiled a rollable 12.4-inch display during the 2024 SID Display Week event. It seems likely that the company will integrate this technology into its upcoming smartphone. Another interesting detail from the report highlights Samsung’s plan to equip the phone with an under-display camera, adding to its premium design. The report also suggests that Samsung's rollable phone will be the first of its kind, though there is always a chance another company could release a similar device first.

It’s worth noting that LG previously attempted to develop a rollable smartphone and even presented a concept device, but the company exited the smartphone market before it could officially launch the product.

Meanwhile, Huawei continues to achieve significant milestones. Its Mate XT, featuring a unique tri-fold design and large screen, has garnered considerable attention in the market, despite its high price tag of $2,800. However, Samsung is not backing down easily. With its plans for a rollable phone boasting a massive 12.4-inch display, the company aims to outshine Huawei and deliver an unparalleled visual experience.
