The best brow products: No more white residue left behind
We've tested various brow products to find the ones that truly deliver, without leaving any unwanted residue. Discover which product disappointed and which one stood up to humidity and sweat.
YSL's Dual-Sided Brow Pencil comes with a tip on one side and a wide, fairly standard brush on the other. A tester, whose brows are more of an abstract concept and who has tried most pencils the world has to offer, reports that the pencil is solid enough for precise drawing but soft enough for comfortable filling. "I prefer pencils that don’t need sharpening, but this one is durable and effective." It comes in only two shades, charcoal gray and brown, which might challenge those with lighter brows.Yves Saint Laurent, Dual-Sided Brow Pencil Dessin Des SourcilsNIS 139.
And here’s a great one that doesn't require sharpening: NARS’ thin pencil allows for precise and delicate application. The pigment is long-lasting, doesn’t smudge, and is bold enough that you won't need to work too hard. The brush on the other end does a great job of organizing and naturally grooming the brows. It comes in eight shades, ensuring every brow finds its match.NARS, Brow PerfectorNIS 120.
To keep all this goodness in place, we tried five setting products:
MAC's new brow gel delivers - it's clear, holds well, doesn’t crumble, and if you’re careful to wipe off the excess, it won’t leave any white residue. But what truly makes the difference is the exceptional brush, with relatively stiff and thick bristles that help tame even the wildest hairs.MAC, Pro Locked Brow GelNIS 130.
In the value-for-money category, Pupa’s colored brow mascara takes the cake, shaping and filling in where needed. The mascara comes in three shades - blonde, brown, and dark brown, with a thin brush and a lightweight formula that keeps brows full and organized without leaving unnecessary residue.Pupa, Plump & Care Eyebrow GelNIS 69.
Another successful and affordable product is Maybelline’s effective brow gel, set to arrive in Israel at the end of the month. We loved the packaging—a tube that doesn’t require scraping out the remnants when you reach the end, and its impressive durability—the gel withstood humidity and sweat without crumbling. The brush itself is too short and requires double combing, but it’s worth the extra effort.Maybelline, Super Brow GlueNIS 50.
Byneta’s new brow gel comes in packaging nearly identical to Maybelline's—a small, convenient, and economical tube with an even shorter brush. Honestly, we’re not sure why this design makes sense. The performance is decent—the brows were groomed naturally without being overdone, but here and there, thin white residues were visible.Byneta, Runway Ready Clear Brow GelNIS 69.
A call to all wild brow enthusiasts—get your hands on got2b’s new and formidable brow gel because if there’s anything that will keep your brows in place, it’s this stuff. got2b is primarily a hair care brand, and they recommend trying the brow gel on frizz and ends as well. The long brush is suited for both purposes—brows and ends, the formula is thick and tough, and our recommendation is to wipe off the excess before application to make the brows less stiff to the touch.got2b, 2-in-1 Brow and Edge GelNIS 50.
The Rules: Where there’s hair you’re emotionally attached to, there will always be a product promising to encourage its growth. And that’s exactly why Estée Lauder offers a night treatment serum for lashes and brows, claiming to nourish, strengthen, and thicken. A tester with five-sixths of an eyebrow applied the serum every night for 10 days according to the instructions—end to end using the applicator—and reports that there’s currently no visible change, but if there’s any improvement, she’ll empty the pharmacy and apply it all over her head.Estée Lauder, Night Revitalizing Serum Lash + BrowNIS 165.
Shir Nakache’s fine brow pencil comes in four shades from dark to light brown, blending with the natural hairs of the brow to create a natural look for everyone, matching their unique shade. The pencil’s tip allows for drawing thin hairs, maintaining the dreamy authentic look we’re aiming for.Shir Nakache, Fine Brow PencilNIS 89.
