As summer transitions into fall, many of us experience a noticeable increase in dust levels at home. With cooler temperatures and closed windows, dust accumulates more quickly, sometimes seeming to multiply at an alarming rate. Here are some ways to manage it effectively.
Why Does Dust Increase in Fall?
One of the primary reasons is seasonal weather changes. Strong winds typical of fall carry dust from outside into our homes. Additionally, closing windows to avoid the cold reduces ventilation, causing dust to settle instead of dispersing.
Meni Hazan, Business Development Manager at Shaniv Sasatech, which owns the brands Touch and TNX, shares some tips for tackling indoor dust.
1. Use Microfiber Cloths for Surface Cleaning: Microfiber cloths capture dust more effectively than regular cloths, prevent dust from dispersing into the air, and are easy to use.
2. Mop Floors Regularly: Wash the floors with water to capture dust. You can add an eco-friendly cleaner, but avoid harsh chemicals to protect family health.
3. Ventilate Daily: Open windows for a few minutes each day. Daily ventilation helps to replace indoor air and reduce dust levels.
4. Clean Appliances Like Air Conditioners and Heating Systems Before Use: Dust can accumulate in these systems and spread throughout the house when they’re turned on.
5. Set a No-Shoes Policy Indoors: Use a separate pathway or wear slippers inside to reduce dust brought in from outdoors.
6. Regularly Dust Furniture: Clean all furniture, including shelves, tables, and decorative items, at least once a week to prevent dust buildup.
7. Consider Vacuuming Air Conditioner Filters: If you have an air conditioning system, use a vacuum on filters to keep the system clean, which helps reduce airborne dust in your home.
