After weeks of blurring the lines between weekends and holidays, weekend recommendations are back and hotter than ever.

Weekend Wine: Santalba Viura 2023

As temperatures start to cool, it might seem like red wines are in order. But I’m still clinging to the last traces of summer with fresh, fun white wines—like this lovely Viura from Bodegas Santalba in Rioja, Spain.

This wine is made from Viura grapes, the white variety of Rioja, sourced from sustainably farmed, dry-farmed vineyards. It has a light yellow hue, with citrus and floral aromas, a pleasant acidity, and a hint of sweetness that doesn’t overpower. We found that it pairs wonderfully with creamy, rich foods, so try it with risotto, pasta in cream sauce, or a variety of cheeses. It’s also kosher.

Price: NIS 54.90

Weekend Whiskey: Loch Lomond STEAM & FIRE

This single malt whiskey undergoes distillation in both traditional and modern stills to achieve greater complexity. It’s aged in three types of American oak barrels: new bourbon barrels, used barrels, and charred barrels for 10 months.

Though its name hints at smoky undertones, it’s actually a caramel-spiced whiskey with a gentle roughness, lots of dried fruit, and a sweet citrus finish. Smoke seekers won’t find it here, but those craving complexity with a subtle smokiness will enjoy this drink. It pairs well with rich or aged cheeses and dark chocolate.

Price: NIS 150
