Shooting occurs in Jerusalem's Ramot neighborhood, suspect tries to evade police

Police carried out a blockade of a tunnel route in Jerusalem, and then fired on a car driver who tried to escape from them in Kiryat Moshe.

A shooting incident took place early Saturday morning in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem, Hebrew media reported.

The gunfire reportedly came from a private vehicle shooting at a police vehicle. Police immediately started chasing the vehicle toward the Shuafat neighborhood in east Jerusalem.

That same night

That same night, police carried out a blockade of a tunnel route in Jerusalem, and then fired at a motorist who tried to escape from them in Kiryat Moshe by driving wildly after being asked to stop, endangering others on the road, Ynet reported.

About seven policemen surrounded a suspicious vehicle on the side of the road, Walla reported. The suspect was seriously injured after being shot by police.

The suspect had rammed his vehicle into a police car as well as several civilians' vehicles, according to Ynet. The suspect was taken for medical treatment at a nearby hospital after being shot. Another civilian who was at the scene was also injured and also received medical treatment.

Police said that a knife was found in his vehicle and that his identity and intentions have not yet been determined. They are investigating the driver and his vehicle.
