Likud supporters, judicial reform protesters clash at Eilat event
Israel Police were forced to separate attendants at an Eilat conference where Transportation Minister Miri Regev was making an appearance.
Judicial reform protesters gathered across Israel on Tuesday morning near venues that were set to host ministers from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
Demonstrators also protested in Eilat in front of a hall where Transportation Minister Miri Regev was speaking at the municipal corporation conference. Some of the attendees of the conference shouted insults at the demonstrators and attempted to approach them, but were hindered by the police.
Hundreds gather in Haifa to protest ministers
Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of a congress center in Haifa, where a number of Likud party ministers were expected to participate at the International Bay Conference for Regionality in the Haifa bay area on Tuesday.
The ministers listed as participants include Economy Minister Nir Barkat, Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman, Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Energy Minister Israel Katz.
At the same time, Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli, who was scheduled to arrive at University of Haifa to address another conference, announced that he would "participate on Zoom," according to Walla!
Protests in Tel Aviv
Dozens also protested in front of the Tel Aviv exhibition grounds, where Education Minister Yoav Kish is expected to attend an education conference. Due to the protests, traffic on Sderot Rokah street was temporarily blocked.
The demonstrations were led by school directors and parents, who announced they will hold their own conference as an alternative.
Another demonstration was planned due to the participation of the Development of the Negev and Galilee and National Resilience Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf, at a conference at the Ziv Medical Center in Safed.
"It's ridiculous that instead of strengthening the Galilee, they come to demonstrate. We cannot allow a demonstration to harm aid to doctors from the Galilee and we will continue to work to reduce the gaps with the center and strengthen the Negev and the Galilee," Otzma Yehudit Minister Wasserlauf commented.
