Six injured after West Bank police chase ends in car crash

An additional eight people were injured in a three-way crash just hours earlier.

Six people were injured, with a seven-year-old in serious condition, in a car crash on Highway 60 near Geva Binyamin junction next to Kokhav Yaakov in the West Bank, according Israel Police early on Thursday morning.

The accident was caused by the driver of a vehicle transporting a motorcycle, who fled from the police after being suspected of stealing the motorcycle. During the chase after the driver, a police car and another vehicle collided.

Two police officers were among the injured in the crash and were treated at the scene with light injuries.

The other injured, including two men and a women in their 20s in moderate condition, received treatment by Magen David Adom medical personnel on the scene. They were evacuted to the Hadassah University Medical Center on Mount Scopus and Shaare Zedek Medical Center, both in Jerusalem.

The police managed to arrest the fleeing driver and another passenger shortly afterward. Highway 60 was closed for traffic to treat the people injured in the accident.

Eight more people injured in an earlier accident

Only hours earlier, eight people were injured in a car crash on Wednesday night between three vehicles on Highway 85 near the Majd al-Kurum junction near Karmiel, according to Israeli media.

A 30-year-old woman was moderately hurt, while seven others suffered minor injuries. 

Magen David Adom (MDA) teams immediately treated the injured and transported them to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya and Rambam Hospital in Haifa for further treatment.

Earlier on Wednesday, a five-year-old child in serious condition with a head injury, was brought to MDA personnel at Shoket junction after he was apparently hit by a car.

The child was treated on the scene and then transferred to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba for further treatment.
