The 38-year-old Kfar Aqab resident had already suffered self-inflicted wounds from the exacto-knife when he was stopped at the crossing.

A suspected terrorist appeared to have attempted suicide with an exacto-knife along with the suspected ramming attack that injured a security guard at the Qalandia checkpoint on Thursday, Israel Police said.

The 38-year-old Kfar Aqab resident had already suffered self-inflicted wounds from the exacto-knife when he was stopped at the crossing to enter Jerusalem when a security guard approached him. The suspect swerved into another lane and struck another guard.

Medical treatment and further investigation

Magen David Adom said that they provided initial medical treatment to the 32-year-old civilian security guard who suffered mild wounds to his lower limbs. Hadassah Medical Center said that they received the man as a patient at the Mount Scopus campus and that he was released later in the afternoon.

"The wounded victim was hit by the vehicle while walking near the checkpoint, suffering bruises to his limbs," said MDA paramedic David Trachtenberg. "The terrorist was neutralized by the security forces, and was fully conscious."

Police said that security forces had arrested the suspect, and were investigating the incident. They are treating the incident as a suicidal ramming attack. A photograph released by police shows the knife and blood staining the driver's seat.
