Bomb suspected in deadly Israel motorcycle explosion
The explosion resulted in the death of the motorcycle's rider.
Police suspect a bomb was involved in a motorcycle explosion Tuesday night that resulted in the death of the vehicle's rider, the police spokesperson stated that evening.
Magen David Adom paramedics and police quickly responded to the explosion, which occurred on Or Yehuda's Shim Peres Blvd.
"Close to 20:45, an explosion occurred on Shimon Peres Street in Or Yehuda. Following reports to the 100 emergency hotline, numerous police forces arrived at the scene," the police spokesperson said. "Initial investigation suggests that this was an explosion involving an explosive device, which resulted [severe] injury to a motorcycle rider. The background of the incident is believed to be criminal in nature. A 47-year-old man, who was riding the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel."
Assessing the scene
The commander of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area police, Commissioner Daniel Haddad, visited the scenes to assess the situation.
Additionally, investigators are working to gather evidence from the scene. The investigational efforts are being headed by the central unit of the Tel Aviv District Police.
