Netanyahu has reiterated Israel's determination to act in Rafah, with or without international agreement.

In a move that has raised eyebrows in Jerusalem, the Biden administration postponed an American arms shipment destined for Israel last week, according to sources from within the Israeli government. This development marks the first instance of such a delay since October 7, sparking concerns and prompting Israeli officials to seek clarification from their American counterparts.

Senior Israeli officials revealed that the shipment, intended to include crucial weaponry for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was halted at a certain stage on directives from Washington. Despite repeated inquiries, neither the White House nor the American Departments of Defense and State have offered an official explanation for the delay.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indirectly addressed the issue, delivering a poignant message on Holocaust Remembrance Day. He paralleled historical leaders who stood against oppression and emphasized the importance of self-defense, stating, "If we do not defend ourselves, no one else will defend us. And if we have to stand alone - we will stand alone," he said on Sunday.

The delay in the arms shipment comes amidst escalating tensions over a potential Israeli operation in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians have sought refuge since the conflict began. Netanyahu has reiterated Israel's determination to act in Rafah, with or without international agreement, further fueling concerns.

Galant signals Israel's readiness for action in Rafah

During a recent visit to forces in the Gaza Strip, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signaled Israel's readiness for significant action in Rafah and other areas across the Gaza Strip, citing perceived threats from Hamas.

Behind closed doors, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken engaged in a tense discussion with Netanyahu regarding the Rafah operation. Sources familiar with the details revealed Blinken's cautionary warning, highlighting potential repercussions on US-Israel relations and public opinion should Israel proceed with a ground operation in Rafah.

White House spokesperson John Kirby reiterated the Biden administration's concerns, emphasizing President Joe Biden's stance on considering a policy shift regarding the Gaza conflict. Kirby underscored the importance of addressing humanitarian concerns in any Israeli action in Rafah.
