Jumana and Naji spent the last weekend in the Nuweibaa area together with their infant and two other children, who were also injured in the accident and are still in Egypt.
Saturday night, the IDF announced that earlier in the day, a joint medevac operation took place in conjunction with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli Embassy in Cairo, and with the cooperation of the Egyptian authorities.
An IAF aircraft with teams of Unit 669 onboard evacuated three Israeli civilians who were injured in the car accident to the Ben Gurion Airport, from where the injured civilians were taken by an ambulance to a hospital.
"A severe disaster, there are no words," MK Ahmad Tibi told Walla, who had already appealed on Saturday morning to the Egyptian authorities for assistance in returning the bodies to Israel from the Egyptian hospital.
A family torn apart
"This is a terrible tragedy; a family has been torn apart," said Dr. Saleh Badir, brother of the late mother.
"Of course, we will do everything for the two children who were saved," Badir said. He also said the family was on its way this morning to vacation for the holiday week in their car when the accident happened.
The family in Israel has not yet received details about the accident.
According to the uncle, another relative has already gone to Egypt. As far as he knows, the children who survived the accident are already in Taba on the Egyptian side of the border and are waiting to cross.
"Today in the morning hours, a serious car accident occurred in which three members of an Israeli family were killed and others were injured," the foreign ministry stated. "[The family] was traveling in the area of Nuweibaa, Egypt. The Israeli Embassy in Cairo and the Department for Israelis Abroad at the Foreign Ministry are handling the incident. They are working with the Egyptian authorities to transfer the coffins of the dead to Israel, as well as assisting the wounded in the hospitals."
