IDF's use of drones, UAVs comes into play in latest operations in Rafah

The IDF’s 401st Brigade in the Armored Corps has employed drones to eliminate terrorists in Rafah, the IDF reported on Monday morning.

The brigade pressed forward and engaged terrorists in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah. The Israeli troops, in addition to combating the terrorists, ultimately destroyed a weapons warehouse from which anti-tank missiles were fired at IDF soldiers.

This is not the first time the IDF has used drones for close-quarters combat. The IDF has regularly trained with drones and developed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for combat alongside civilian security systems companies.

Last week, an IDF drone operating over Lebanon amid heavy fire from Hezbollah in northern Israel was shot down by a Lebanese surface-to-air missile, leaving the UAV to fall into Lebanese territory.

Two days later, the IDF announced that it had eliminated a suspect approaching the Gaza border fence using a UAV. The suspect was approximately 100 meters from a section of the border fence close to a nearby town.
