'Difficult to watch': Donald Trump urges people to watch October 7 film
Trump wrote that the documentary was 'incredibly difficult to watch because, sadly, it graphically portrays the death and destruction that Hamas has unleashed.'
Former US President Donald Trump urged people to watch the film Screams Before Silence by Sheryl Sandberg, which documents Hamas's sexual violence on October 7, in a post on his social network Truth Social on Tuesday morning.
Trump wrote that the documentary was "...incredibly difficult to watch because, sadly, it graphically portrays the Death and Destruction that Hamas has unleashed."
"We demand that all Hostages taken October 7th from Israel, and being held in Gaza, be released immediately, including eight Americans, and citizens from over twenty other countries, so that the war can come to an end," he added.
'Screams before silence'
Sandberg, the former chief operating officer of social media giant Meta, produced the film to counter denialism of sexual violence that took place on Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists massacred more than 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped some 250 more, amid widespread barbaric acts of sexual violence.
The film includes interviews with witnesses and released hostages, such as Amit Soussana, who spoke about her experience of sexual violence during Hamas captivity.
The film's title derives from an interview Sanberg carried out with Tali Binner, who was at the music festival and survived by hiding in a trailer. She told Sandberg, “I started to hear the yelling of women. I heard a girl that started to yell for a long time. She was asking someone to stop. So, when I hear ... someone scream and then silence, I knew that it’s probably someone got shot."
Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a screening of the film at the White House earlier this month.
Trump's views on the war
Trump has previously blamed Biden for the Israel-Hamas war and said it would not have happened if he were president.
In an interview with TIME magazine on April 30, Trump said he has been "very loyal to Israel, more loyal than any other president. I've done more for Israel than any other president. Yeah, I will protect Israel."
He also expressed doubt about the viability of a two-state solution.
