Hamas claims responsibility for shooting terror attack in Kalkilya, one Israeli wounded
The terrorist responsible for the attack was released in the hostage, prisoner exchange deal in November.
A 60-year-old Israeli was severely wounded by Hamas terrorist gunfire in Kalkilya Monday evening, and two Palestinians were wounded, the IDF reported.
The terrorist who carried out the attack, named Tarek Ziad Abd al-Rahim Daud, 18, was released from Israeli prison in the hostage and prisoner exchange deal in November, Israeli media reported.
The terrorist fled the scene, but was later located by IDF soldiers, and was eliminated close to Kalkilya by Colonel Nathaniel Shamka of the Ephraim Brigade.
Kalkilya is in Area A of the West Bank, and Israelis are prohibited from entering. However, according to the initial investigation, the 60-year-old Israeli entered the area to repair his car, Ynet reported.
After being injured, he was initially taken to a nearby hospital, and after stabilizing his condition, he was transferred to the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba for further treatment.
According to the hospital's staff, the injured man was in serious though stable condition, the report on Ynet noted.
Hamas claims responsibility
The Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry identified the shooter as an 18-year-old from the area. A photograph from his social media account shows him wearing a military-style uniform and holding an assault rifle and ammunition.
The Islamist terrorist group Hamas said the attacker was one of its members.
