Some 160 Hezbollah rockets cross into northern Israel in latest barrages
The IDF added that the Israel Air Force had intercepted some of the rockets while others had impacted in the area.
Approximately 160 Hezbollah rockets crossed into northern Israel from Lebanon as of 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, the IDF stated earlier.
Later in the day, red-alert sirens sounded across Haifa, the Carmel, and the lower Galilee. Magen David Adom stated that the only physical injuries recorded were caused by those rushing into shelters. Israel Police is currently searching the area for possible impacted areas.
The IDF added that the Israel Air Force had intercepted a number of the rockets while others had landed in the area. MDA teams were called to several different locations where there were reports of people injured as they headed to protected areas in the cities of Haifa, Nahariya, and Acre, Israeli media reported.
Additionally, a fire broke out in the area of Safed that resulted in three people suffering from smoke inhalation and were sent to Ziv Medical Center. The IDF also noted that firefighters were operating to extinguish fires that had erupted due to rocket impact.
At 11:09 a.m., sirens sounded in Acre, Nahariya, and Rosh Hanikra, among other locations.
Earlier barrage to the area
The IAF intercepted a suspicious aerial target above Israeli maritime territory in the Haifa area early on Sunday morning and added that no alerts were triggered as a result.
Earlier, the military said three rockets had crossed into Israel from Lebanon, following the sirens that sounded in the Haifa and the Carmel area in northern Israel at 09:49 a.m. and at 9:37 a.m. local time.
Later on Sunday, at 12:28 p.m., numerous rocket sirens sounded in areas such as Rosh Pina, Dalton, and Safed, following which the military said approximately 30 rockets had crossed into Israel.
Several rockets were intercepted, while others fell in the region.
Impacts in the area ignited fires which firefighters promptly operated to extinguish.
This is a developing story.
