Gallant attributed the collapse to the IDF's strikes against Hezbollah and Iran, which destroyed their missile systems and killed Nasrallah.

Former defense minister Yoav Gallant called the fall of the Assad regime a positive development "despite the inherent risks" in a post to X on Sunday night.

Gallant attributed the collapse to the IDF's strikes against Hezbollah and Iran, which destroyed their missile systems and killed Hezbollah's long-time commander, Hassan Nasrallah.

"Exactly 14 months after the low point we reached, Israel’s superiority and strength are once again clearly evident throughout the Middle East," Gallant said.

Gallant praised the IDF's "fighters and commanders" for their resolve in the face of the "seven front war."

The former defense minister

Gallant was fired from his position as defense minister on November 5, ostensibly due to a "crisis of trust."

He held the position for the entirety of the war and had been critical of Netanyahu's handling of the war.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Gallant and Netanyahu in late November for the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.
