"A" operated from a sincere desire to ensure that decision-makers operate with a complete intelligence picture for the benefit of the country's security," the letter read.

Diaspora Affairs and Combatting Antisemitism Minister Amichai Chikli, and Likud MKs Dan Illouz and Moshe Saada petitioned on Thursday to President Isaac Herzog that he pardon reservist NCO "A," one of the suspects involved in the classified documents leak case from the Prime Minister's Office.

"In his actions, although they were misguided, there was no malicious intent but rather a sincere desire to ensure that decision-makers operate with a complete intelligence picture for the benefit of the country's security," the letter to the president read.

"A is currently being held in harsh and degrading conditions that do not reflect his tremendous contribution to the state or the circumstances of the case," they continued.

'A' submits request for presidential pardon

Earlier on Thursday, Israeli state broadcaster KAN News reported that "A" submitted a request for a presidential pardon through his attorneys to president Herzog.

KAN noted that as part of the request, A's attorneys argued that the indictment is "riddled with errors, distortions, and misrepresentations - a legal proceeding that should never have occurred."

The request for the pardon was received and is being reviewed by the President's Residence, Israeli media reported.
