The US cyber watchdog agency CISA said there is "no indication" the breach at the US Treasury Department has affected any other federal agency.
Late last month the US Treasury reported an unspecified number of computers had been compromised by Chinese hackers.
US lawmakers have demanded a briefing about the breach, which is the latest in a series of intrusions blamed on Beijing.
