Defense Minister Gallant holding talks on possible expansion of offensive

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was holding talks late on Saturday on possibly expanding Israel's military offensive on its northern front, his office said in a statement.

"Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant is currently conducting an operational situation assessment regarding the expansion of IDF (Israel Defence Forces) activities in the northern arena," his office said.

Israeli strike hit 500 meters from Beirut airport buildings, security source says

An Israeli strike hit an industrial area 500 meters from Beirut airport buildings, a security source told Reuters, saying it was the closest strike yet to the airport.

The source said the area hit was full of car repair garages.

The strike near the airport was targeting another Hezbollah official, according to Army Radio.

The boss of Lebanon's national carrier Middle East Airlines Mohammad al-Hout said the airport was operating normally.

"The Beirut airport is not being targeted, there are no weapons there," al-Hout told Reuters.

Israeli politicians issued statements on Saturday celebrating the elimination of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, lauding the operation as a historic and impressive military achievement.

"Eliminating Nasrallah and Hezbollah’s chain of command is a defining moment. This is not only a settling of scores but also an opening of new opportunities," National Unity chair Benny Gantz said.

"We face tremendous challenges, along with the chance to break the Iranian ring of fire and achieve our war objectives, foremost among them the safe return of our hostages and residents to their homes. For this, we must continue the offensive against our enemies and pursue diplomatic efforts with our allies," Gantz continued.

Brig. Gen. Amichai Levine, the newly appointed commander of the IAF's Hatzerim Airbase, revealed on Saturday that the mission to eliminate Hassan Nasrallah demanded unique, world-class capabilities from the Israeli Air Force.

The operation required extreme precision to strike a deep underground area while maintaining perfect deception, ensuring that Hezbollah officials such as Nasrallah, Ali Karaki, and other senior figures would not detect the attack and escape.

The Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Saturday condemned the Israeli strike that eliminated Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on Friday and accused Israel of being responsible for "subsequent escalation."

"We strongly condemn yet another political murder committed by Israel," the ministry said. "This violent action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East. The Israeli side could not help but be aware of this danger, but took such a step."

Rocket sirens sounded in Tel Aviv as well as localities across central Israel on Saturday.

The IDF subsequently stated the sirens sounded in the center of the country after a missile was launched at Israel from Yemen.

The missile was intercepted by the IDF Aerial Defense Array outside of Israeli territory, the IDF said. No casualties have been reported except for injuries that occurred while civilians were running to protected areas and calls of stress symptoms, according to an MDA spokesperson.

The details of the incident are under investigation, the military added.
