Iran-backed Hezbollah needs to focus on domestic issues in Lebanon and not the wider region, senior Lebanese Maronite politician Gebran Bassil said on Tuesday, adding that he was against the head of the army running for the presidency.

A year of fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, which culminated in a tentative ceasefire brokered by the United States and France in November, saw more than 4,000 killed, thousands displaced, and the powerful Shi'ite group considerably weakened militarily with many of its leaders dead.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that it strongly condemned Israel's entry into the buffer zone between Israel and Syria and its advance into Syrian territory.

"Israel is once again displaying its occupation mentality," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Israel denied that its forces had entered Syrian territory beyond the buffer zone with the Golan Heights. However, Syrian sources said the incursion had extended to within 25 kilometers (15 miles) of the capital, Damascus.

Qatar says it is unacceptable for Israel to 'exploit' Syria situation

Qatar considers it unacceptable for Israel to "exploit" the current situation in Syria and violate its sovereignty, Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said in a press conference on Tuesday.

Asked about any communication with Syria's leading rebel faction, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Al-Ansari said Qatar's doors are open to all concerned parties in Syria.

According to Reuters, the IAF sunk several Syrian military vessels in their home port. The IDF later confirmed that the Israeli navy had conducted a large-scale operation overnight to destroy Syria's naval fleet.

"The attack was carried out using Navy missile ships, during which many Syrian naval vessels carrying dozens of sea-to-sea missiles were destroyed in the Mina al-Bayda area and the port of Latakia," the military reported.

The IDF noted that the operation was conducted to stop the fleet's assets "from falling into the hands of hostile elements."

A drone that hit a building in Yavne on Monday was not intercepted due to the possibility it was a civilian aircraft, the Commanding Officer of the Israeli air force, Maj.-Gen. Tomer Bar said on Tuesday following an operational inquiry.

The drone, which had been launched from Yemen, was initially identified as a suspicious aerial target traveling adjacent to other aircraft that were not classified as hostile.

However, the IDF said that due to a lack of continuous surveillance, as well as the potential of it being civilian, the interception did not occur.

Furthermore, the IDF stated that because it was not classified as hostile, no sirens were activated.

Bar apologized that the "IAF failed to provide security and warning to the Israeli civilians."
