Rambam Hospital reports outbreak of resistant acinetobacter bacteria in internal wing due to elderly patient from city's old people's home.

Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa has reported an outbreak of a resistant strain of Acinetobacter bacteria in its internal wing. The hospital notified the Health Ministry of14 cases of infection with the bacteria that were detected between September and November.

After investigating the infection unit, it was determined that an elderly patient, who had recently come from one of the city's old people's homes, was the source of the infection, leading to the spread among other patients.

In response to the increasing number of infections, Rambam Hospital took several measures, including extensive communication about the discovery of the bacteria, the formation of specialized treatment teams, close monitoring and feedback, replacement of equipment, and more.

As of now, the outbreak has been contained, and the hospital currently has one patient who is isolated.
