Houthis claim attack on Tel Aviv area after IAF intercepts drone from the east

The IAF intercepted a drone over Rehovot after sirens were activated Sunday morning near Yavne and Ness Ziyon, the IDF confirmed on Sunday.

No casualties were reported, though one woman was wounded en route to a protected area.

Residents of Gaza border communities claim to have seen the unmanned aircraft cruising at low altitude, heading toward Israel's Center region.

Yemen's Houthis claimed responsibility for the Sunday morning drone attack that the terror group said targeted the Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Ashkelon areas.

The statement came on Sunday evening, many hours after the IDF announced that the Israeli air force had intercepted a drone that had crossed into Israeli territory from the east.

The foreign aircraft had triggered alarms in the Lachish and Shfela areas.

"We carried out a qualitative military operation against the military and vital targets of the Israeli enemy," the Houthis stated.

Additionally, the Houthis claimed that the attack included a number of drones and that the operation achieved its goal.

Eastward-bound drones

In the last few days, sirens were triggered in Israel's southernmost city of Eilat, in which an Israeli Navy vessel intercepted a drone from the east.

In an additional incident, a drone was intercepted by the IAF after penetrating Israel's Arava region.

Last week, the IAF intercepted another drone intrusion from the east before entering Israeli territory, with fragments of the intercepted aircraft falling into an open area within the Golan Heights.
