Classic honey cake, special desserts or gift boxes: In preparation for the holiday, we went out to check the desserts of some of the major chains, and came back with conclusions regarding the taste.

The chains' good and disappointing desserts in special editions for Rosh Hashanah.

Biscotti

The Rosh Hashanah collection of Biscotti includes Biscotti's beloved and popular honey cake alongside cakes in surprising combinations. We sampled the Honey Queen - a dough layered cake with whipped cream. This is not the classic cake and it is not fair to treat it as such. This is a cake that includes a stack of layers of soft dough that is all soaked in the flavors of honey and cinnamon that were integrated together precisely. The whipped cream on top was airy, with a refined sweetness that balanced the sweet dough.

The cake was a bit "heavy", but lovers of the sweet, the textures and the whipped cream will get exactly what they are looking for. The Honey Moon, which is actually shortbread, honey frangipane, yogurt cream and vanilla Chantilly, did not disappoint either. Beyond its elegant appearance, it is simply creamy and wonderful.

Price: NIS 72-144.

Lehamim

Uri Scheft's Lehamim bakery is launching a holiday edition for Rosh Hashanah with a variety of challahs, honey cakes and special desserts to mark the new year. As part of the hospitality of pastry chef Yaki Sagi from Kibbutz Be'eri, a Be'eri Strudel is also offered, the proceeds of which go to the rehabilitation of the kibbutz and its members.

We tasted the bakery's well-known honey and citrus cake, which was also excellent this year, soft, delicious in moderation and above all very festive. And of course we didn't give up the strudel which was simply dreamy. Bite after bite, we couldn't stop eating it. In the case of Lehamim, it is impossible without saying a word about his beautiful clay challah and the most delicious olive oil brioche we have ever eaten.

Price: NIS 42-129.

Roladin

At Roladin we celebrate the new year with a variety of honey cakes, apple pastries, tarts, yeast cakes and more, along with gift boxes. We tasted the apple tart - sable, almond cream and rum, apples in vanilla, cinnamon and streusel, which was delightful. A great combination of textures with spicy sweetness.

We also didn't give up the PISTACHIO APRICOT cake - almond crumble and biscuit, apricot coulis, pistachio praline mousse and vanilla Chantilly, which was the farthest from what we expected from a classic holiday cake and was a pleasant surprise, both in creativity and in the play of flavors. But if you ask us, the winner is the apple brioche, a tall and airy cake with almond cream inside and an apple top with a salty toffee coating.

Ne'eman Bakery

The Ne'eman Bakery chain offers holiday cakes based on the purity of honey and apple. We tasted a honey kugelhof with white fondant, a classic cake that was delicious, airy and not too sweet.

The Kadaif Jerusalem honey we tasted was also great. It combines layers of honey cake and a white chocolate cream filling, halvah and caramelized Kadaif hairs in honey, and was much less sweet than we expected. An interesting cake, which is a bit loaded with items but delicious. We had a homemade honey roulade rolled in vanilla Chantilly cream for dessert, which threw us back to the eighties - and although it's not bad, we're less into retro.

Shemo

Pastry chef Miki Shemo offers this year classic desserts and different versions of the traditional honey cake. We tasted dolce, honey mousse: two rolls of honey mousse on a chocolate bottom and nuts combined with Valerona chocolate that come as a beautiful strip cake. A cake that looks beautiful and its taste does not disappoint.

At his name, we didn't give up a classic honey cake either, which was exactly what we expected - airy, soft and moderately sweet. For dessert, we spread a strip cake that consisted of a stack of thin layers of puff pastry and vanilla cream. The cake was very tasty and we liked it, but nothing about it reminded us of the fact that it is related to Rosh Hashanah.

Price: NIS 89-150.

EATS cafeteria

Cafeteria EATS has created a collection of elegant cakes for the new year that are perfect for entertaining. We tasted the honey tart which boasted a crispy and sweet dough and a creamy and delightful honey filling inside. The special twist was given here by the Atlantic salt that was cleverly combined and prevented the tart from being too sweet. We also fell in love with triple honey - a layered cake with pastry cream and pecan crumble that was comforting and good.

Price: NIS 144-154.

La Farina

Handmade cakes containing natural honey from the bakery chain La Farina. Among the cakes you will find a honey tiramisu cake with almonds decorated with dark chocolate - a surprising and unexpected cake that takes the classic tiramisu to other realms. We would just balance the sweetness a bit.

Price: NIS 32.90-89.90.

Boutique Central

In the Boutique Central chain, we tasted an edition of coated local organic Israeli honey cakes, including a coffee whiskey honey cake coated with bitter chocolate (fur), a honey nougat cake coated with milk chocolate and almond (dairy); And a glowing orange honey cake with white chocolate coating and candied (dairy) orange peels.

We liked that the chain decided to stick to the classics without giving up the personal touch. Let's start with the fact that all three are quite tasty, and continue with the fact that we were mainly surprised by the whiskey coffee cake which jumped the classic honey by several levels. Since we are not fond of white chocolate, the honey nougat coated with milk chocolate and almonds is our favorite.

SHIRIZ patisserie

In SHIRIZ this year they decided to decorate the desserts for the New Year in the color associated with the struggle of the kidnapped families. Also, for every purchase, a 10% donation will be given to the families headquarters.

We sampled a classic honey cake with yellow chocolate sprinkles. A delicious cake, which moved us very much due to the gesture. It is airy to the extent that it does not suffer from excessive sweetness. Great next to coffee. We also really liked the marshmallows with a touch of lemon and white and yellow chocolate coating. Classic marshmallows but with an excellent texture that just melts in your mouth. The coating also did an excellent job here and upgraded them.

Price: NIS 45-50.

Biga Bakery

The Biga Coffee chain offers a classic honey apple cake - gluten-free and dairy-free. It is a round cake on pure honey and seasoned with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. A classic cake, stable and not too sweet. An excellent solution for those avoiding gluten and lactose.

Price: NIS 49.
